Some people say things happen for a reason. Just three days out from their original wedding date, Alice and Dylan had to postpone their celebrations due to the Melbourne pandemic lock-downs. As you’d imagine, this was a real kick in the teeth to say the least. But in the end, it meant they landed a beautiful sunny day with a crack team of vendors to support them.

Held at Cadella Park (Churchill’s sister venue), their day really was a team effort with Tony Evans Photo behind the lens, The White Tree on video and Prunella on flowers. It was Alice and Dylan however, who set out from the start to create something “relaxed, simple and fun”. It was exactly that.

How did you meet? We knew one another through school but it took a good friend to convince Dyl to take me out for coffee and we started dating shortly after this.

The proposal: We were living in London at the time and Dyl had organised a day trip around the city. I was not at all suspicious, yet I did think he was very dressed up! It started as a sunny winter’s day but his plan to propose at Greenwich Park did not go to plan. It started pouring so we fled to a nearby market and settled into a gin bar to wait it out. We then ended up at a quiet spot on the Thames where Dyl got down on one knee. It was just perfect!

Wedding venue: We knew wanted a location wedding and something a little bit different on a farm/private property but we also didn’t want our guests to travel too far from Melbourne. We were first attracted to Churchill (the other venue owned by Prunella) however this was too small for us. The girls at Prunella advised us they had just taken over a new venue just out of Kyneton called Cadella Park and this would fit more people. I sent my parents and my sister to check it out as we were overseas and they loved it. It ticked all the boxes for us and we locked it in straight away!

Wedding vibe: For us we wanted something relaxed, simple and fun. One thing we were sure of from the start was that we wanted everyone to just have a really fun day and we wanted it to feel like us so we kept that in mind throughout the process. Vanessa and Caris from Prunella made the planning so easy and we followed their lead with a lot of the styling and event organisation.

Traditions: adopted, adapted or ditched? At the last minute we decided to write everyone a personal note. This was a lot of work but we had fun going through all the memories and stories of times shared with all our guests!

The outfit/s: I don’t think I had a real plan in mind when I first set out to find a dress but I knew I wanted something classic and simple. I tried on a few dresses in London however nothing stood out. I booked an appointment at Mariana Hardwick when I arrived home and loved the first dress I tried on. It was a beautiful pearl gown and I felt great in it. I had two designers make my dress and they were both such lovely people and made the whole process very enjoyable.

Dyl got his suit from P. Johnson Tailors and his shirt and tie from Nazario Parisi & Sons. He gave all of his groomsmen a tie from Nazario Parisi & Sons and they all looked very sharp!

Standout vendors: We had an incredible team involved in planning our wedding and I can highly recommend them all. The first decision we made when planning our wedding was to book our photographer Tony Evans as he came so highly recommended. He was incredible and a genuinely great person. He made everyone feel so relaxed on the day and we are so happy with our photos. Vanessa and Caris from Prunella were truly amazing – they are an incredible team and so talented. Our makeup artist Skye Isabella was also amazing – she was super relaxed and all the girls looked beautiful! Finally, Renee and Jamie from Tobi Music – this incredibly talented husband and wife duo sang during our ceremony and canapés and really set the scene in the shade under the trees.

Soundtrack: Flower girl and bridal party entrance: “Here Comes the Sun” – The Beatles.

Aisle: “Can’t Help Falling in Love” – Elvis Presley.

Signing: “Stand by Me” – Ben E. King.

Ceremony exit: “Dog Days are Over” – Florence and the Machine.

First Dance: “Higher Love” – Kygo and Whitney Houston.

Words of wedding wisdom: Just relax and know that, whatever happens, your day will be amazing. Enjoy having all your favourite people in the same place. Make sure you enjoy every minute – it will absolutely fly by!

I’ll always remember… Alice: All of it – we were so happy the day was able to go ahead and we could celebrate with our closest family and friends.

Dylan: The incredible feeling of happiness (and relief!) when we were finally announced as husband and wife.

Hit or (near) miss: We had to cancel our first wedding three days out from the day so that was a pretty big disaster. It was the first weekend of lockdown in Melbourne and we were pretty devastated but it all worked out in the end and the day was better than we ever imagined!

The future: Building a life together with your best friend.
