It’s easy to be fooled into thinking Rowlee Wines is located somewhere in the European countryside. The sprawling vineyards, heavenly-scented fruit trees, manicured gardens and olive grove all pay homage to the owners of Rowlee Wine’s Croatian roots, where their family tradition of grape growing and winemaking began.

In addition to producing award-winning wines, this venue also succeeds in creating memorable celebrations (some of which you can see here and here). 2.Mayfield Vineyard

This iconic Orange winery dates back to 1815, and hints of its past still exist today in a number of dwellings that remain in use on the property including The Settlers Cottage (1886), The Homestead (1906) and The Mayfield School House (1915).

The expansive grounds also speak to this venue’s ties to Europe with an arboretum (a botanical garden devoted to growing trees) featuring 50 different species, many over 100 years old. 3.McGuigan House

4.Terrara House

6.Redleaf

Built in the 1800s this Tuscan-inspired villa is the easiest way to have a European-style wedding in Australia. Not only because it doesn’t need any dressing up to fit the theme, but because being close to the Hunter Valley means there’s plenty of accommodation and things to do nearby (read: wine tasting). It’s a perfect scenario for couples who want a destination wedding without the logistical headache.

On-site, the villa itself accommodates 12 guests across six king-sized bedrooms, while the rest of the 10-acre property features stunning gardens, a pool, and “The Garden Room” - a lovely building that was once a restaurant and can comfortably hold 50 guests.

7.Deux Belettes

Location: Byron Bay Hinterland, NSW // Capacity: 100 // BYO: Yes // Accommodation: Yes - 4 guests // Wedshed loves: The authentic French vibes and environmental focus (they plant 12 rainforest trees each year, named and dated to represent the contribution made to the environment by wedding couples.)

Stuff going to France when this European-style wedding venue exists just outside of Byron Bay. Inspired by quintessential French farmhouses, Deux Bellettes is the result of a young family’s dream to live a sustainable, off-grid lifestyle well before it was considered mainstream.

They planted more than 1,000 fruit trees, rare rainforest trees and thousands of eucalypts and pines for building and heating. They also planted 150 plane trees along their long driveway, which, forty years on, have grown to give the property a distinctly European feel.

The farmhouse (best described as a “chateau”) was also built slowly over time using traditional building methods found in rural France, and now serves as a beautiful and romantic backdrop for weddings. The interiors of Deux Bellettes are adorned with classic and antique furnishings, while outside is decorated with wild lavender, rambling roses, a rosemary scented courtyard and small plunge pool. 8.Hopewood House

10.Nutting Hill Villa

Only, it’s legit - and it exists on 100 acres just outside of Byron Bay.

12.Montrose House

Location: Southern Highlands, NSW // Capacity: 130 // BYO: Alcohol only // Accommodation: Yes - 4 guests // Wedshed loves: It would be a sin not to say the gardens, but the ivy-covered reception hall is also incredible (especially in Autumn).

Spanning 33 acres and featuring an original 1861 homestead, this historic Southern Highlands wedding venue is a rare find. Its English-inspired gardens and natural surrounds are one of its most alluring features, and couples can expect to find goats, ponies, cherry and apple blossoms, ancient oaks and elms, a pine forest and an established orchard and hazelnut grove.

Being BYO and pet-friendly is another big drawcard, and there’s accommodation on-site for four guests. There are multiple (and equally stunning) ceremony locations too, and the Greenhouse Bar is the perfect setting for cocktails on the lawn. Receptions typically take place inside Badgery Hall - an impressive, blank canvas space with brick walls, warm timber floors, vintage lighting and ornate bar - and later, couples and their guests can enjoy a drink around the fire outside the unique Carriage Barn.
