Here we chat to the creative duo about motivational music, morning coffees and, most importantly, making poignant wedding films.
Tell us a bit about your business…
CloudHerd Film Co. is a boutique film company focused on making wedding films with feelings. Heading a small but highly motivated team is Taku (head cinematographer) and Jem (chief editor) – sidekicks in life and work – they bring a contagious energy to their filmmaking.
They hand-craft each wedding film with a huge amount of care and precision. It is not just about capturing a day for them, it’s about creating something uncompromisingly beautiful from some of the most poignant moments in a couple’s life. Their films strive to become treasures, legacies and something completely unique to each couple.
What is the main advantage for couples who work with you?
We are down to earth, genuine people who will never compromise on the level of service we offer. We strive to uphold a precise balance between professionalism and fun. We do not work to a specific formula, each film is made for the couple starring in it and each one has a different energy behind it. We push ourselves continuously to perfect our craft so that we stay passionate and excited about what we are doing.
Can you share some of the things that go on behind the scenes?
Lots of coffee, some motivational music, a heap of laughs and on your day at least one moment of complete and utter real raw love feelings. We are always so humbled to be there.
Can you describe what sets your business apart…
We have a simple philosophy – to make uncompromisingly beautiful films for people. We always do our utmost to be unobtrusive and make you feel at ease with us, so that we can capture all those candid moments with subtlety and comfort.
Not all wedding videographers are trained filmmakers. By hiring us, you benefit from the knowledge and skill set of trained filmmakers who actively work in the film and TV industry.
We don’t take shortcuts. We are a small, boutique studio and all our films are edited in-house. There is no out-sourcing and no compromises on the quality of our work.
What are some of the main questions couples ask you? And what are the answers?
Q – “Can we pick our own music” – You can definitely help chose your music by telling us your favourite genre and songs, but we want to respect all the amazing artists out there so license all the music we use. We also don’t want Beyoncé to sue us because she’s the queen!
Q – “We don’t want to turn our wedding into a film set” – Awesome! Neither do we! The most crew we have is two cinematographers at your wedding, we’re super friendly and aware of personal space. We use our ninja styles to make sure your Grandma can see your ring exchange. We spend a lot of time making sure our gear is of the highest quality in the lightest form.
Q – “Are you guys married” – Jem’s answer – “not yet, just waiting for someone to ask” (shifty eye glance to Taku). Taku’s answer “not yet, just waiting for someone to stop asking and to stop secretly planning before being asked” (eye roll to Jem).
What’s your next predicted wedding trend?
The next big trend is the “wedstival” – although this is already happening we think it will become more and more trendy to spread your wedding over a few days, have multiple live acts, camping and sunrise yoga with your guests.
