REAL WEDDING: Mel + Ronnie – Toolangi Heights
If you need some inspiration for a relaxed, outdoor wedding Mel and Ronnie’s VIC wedding is our pick. Think donuts, food trucks and an open-air dance floor. These guys enlisted the help of family and friends in order to be “more focused on being the best versions of ourselves instead of spending money on fancy things”. It’s an approach we can really get behind.

“We could not have asked for a better day, a better venue or better people to celebrate with”, says Mel of her outdoor wedding at Toolangi Heights – a breathtaking and well-equipped space located 75 minutes outside Melbourne.

With their focus being on family and friends rather than ‘fancy things’, they kept it simple with a food truck, donuts for dessert and an open-air dance floor.

Check out their entire day with photos by Captured by Riley below.

In a nutshell, how would you describe your wedding day?

Absolutely perfect. We could not have asked for a better day, a better venue or better people to celebrate with.

What did you expect was going to be your favourite part in the lead-up? What did it end up being?

(Ronnie) – ceremony for both.

(Mel) – walking down the aisle was my expectation and it ended up being everything. I honestly cannot choose anything over anything. It truly was more than I could have ever hoped for.

Did you write your own vows? If so, what made you decide to do that?

Our celebrant gave us a whole heap of different vows to look at and get ideas from. We decided to take parts from a few different vows that suited us to build our own vows. We did this together because we both agreed on the same things for each other.

What was it about your wedding venue that made you book?

Firstly the hosts. Secondly the scenery. Thirdly the variety of options we had for ceremony and reception.

What’s your best piece of wedding-related advice?

We asked for a lot of help from friends and family and were more focused on being the best versions of ourselves instead of spending money on fancy things. We kept it simple and we received more help than we could have ever imagined and the wedding was more than perfect.

If you had your time again, is there anything you’d do differently?

I don’t think so. We were happy with everything and had so much fun in the lead up and on the day. One thing we did miss out on was having photos taken with the car that my dad drove me to the wedding in (1973 Dodge Challenger). We have no photos or footage of this and it was a special part of the day.

Finish these sentences…

My partner is... Ronnie: My world / Mel: My king, lover and everything.

The best thing we did at our wedding was… host it at the venue that we did. We cannot recommend this venue enough for scenery, hospitality, energy, love and care. It truly is heaven on Earth.

We splurged on... our love for each other and our love to celebrate this amazing adventure and time in our lives. We did not splurge on anything in terms of cost.

We saved on… quite a lot of things. We could not have done this wedding without the help of so many amazing family and friends.
