Bridechilla is exactly how we’d describe Rhiannon. Choosing beautiful WedShed venue, Little Church Spring Hill for their ceremony and reception, the couple experienced a few mishaps on the day (like their wedding planner not showing up!). Despite all this, their wedding was everything they’d dreamt of – totally relaxed, with delicious food and happy guests.

Check out this awesome day below, captured by Carry Your Heart Photography.

In a nutshell, how would you describe your wedding day?

A really relaxed and fun day, surrounded by our close family and friends. Lots of laughter, tears (mostly from Sam), good food, music, and dancing.

What did you expect was going to be your favourite part in the lead-up? What did it end up being?

I loved finding my dress and knowing it was ‘the one’. I also loved having all our family and friends celebrate with us, but my favourite thing would be seeing how happy our son Kiah was on the day. Jess (our photographer) captured some beautiful pictures of Kiah entertaining our guests and enjoying his ice cream(s). I’m sure he had no idea what was going on but hopefully in years to come when he looks back and realises just how special it was being able to share our day with him.

Did you write your own vows? If so, what made you decide to do that?

Yes, we did. We both hate public speaking but we didn’t want the traditional and outdated vows so we wrote our vows together and read the same vows to each other. They were short and sweet but us.

What was it about Little Church that made you choose it?

Sam had two rules when it came to our wedding venue. Not in Portland (where we meet) or in Byron bay (I loved Fig Tree Restaurant)… so the search began. Little Church Spring Hill is about 55mins from our house so we went out one Sunday to have a look and after a few minutes of being out there Sam was like, “I really like it out here” so I was like, “Done”! We didn’t need to look at other venues, it had everything we needed. We wanted somewhere where we could have both the ceremony and reception in the same place – tick! We also wanted to get married in a church but out in the bush – tick. The little church ticked all the boxes and that was it. We set the date that day!

Now that you’re married, what’s your best piece of wedding planning advice you can share?

Don’t stress the small stuff or the things that are out of your control! We had a few mishaps like the bridal car burning down about 5mins before picking us up and my wedding planner was a no show on the day… but it still ran smoothly.

If you had your time again, is there anything you’d do differently?

Get more photos with our guests, and a group photo… we totally forgot to do this!

Finish these sentences. The best thing we did at our wedding was…

We had food trucks for a cocktail style reception. We had woodfire pizza and a homemade ice cream van. The food was delicious, our guests could pick and choose and eat when they wanted to. They also had vegan, gluten-free and vegetarian options. We picked food trucks because pizza is Sams favourite food and I love ice cream so it worked out perfectly.

We splurged on…

Hiring caricature artist. We hired him to entertain our guests while the bridal party were off having their photos. It was also our gift to our guests. They all loved it and it’s a present they won’t forget.

We saved on…

Our cake. I made it myself and it didn’t get eaten at our wedding but our guests enjoyed the following day at our recovery BBQ!
