Food has always been a key element at weddings (we all gotta eat) but now it’s being used for more than simply lining our stomachs - consider the current wedding catering trends: food as styling, interactive food stations, boujee buffets, clustered grazing and more.
It's an exciting trend that when you think about it, makes sense - food doesn't just taste good, it looks good as well. Perhaps this shift in the way we see food (quite literally) is why Australian orchards are becoming such a hotspot for weddings. If you've ever been cherry picking or walked past a fruiting lemon tree, you'll know firsthand how intoxicatingly beautiful both the scent and sight of these colourful fruits are.
There’s something utterly magical about saying “I do” surrounded by rows of fruit-laden trees that’s hard to replicate anywhere else, but these Australian orchards don’t just make for a unique setting to exchange vows. They also provide a beautiful backdrop for photos or a nice smelling reception space (usually, both). Many of these places are also wineries, rural retreats or working farms that have diversified by expanding into the world of weddings, meaning they are well set up to host celebrations of all shapes and sizes. Lucky us.
For anyone planning a wedding somewhere outside a main city and who likes the idea of a fruit-filled affair, here are our favourite Australian orchards you can get wed in.
Location: Orange, NSW // Capacity: 200 // Accommodation: Yes - sleeps 16 // Wedshed loves: Everything you need is already here - views, accommodation, catering and even an orchard.
Borrodell Estate is a vineyard wedding venue in Orange, NSW that doesn’t mind when people stop and stare. For many, it’s hard not to - Borrodell’s orchard, filled with prized cherries, apples and persimmons is quite an alluring sight. Then there's the large grass terrace (with its own helipad) and spectacular views over the grapevines as well.
But Borrodell Estate is more than just its good looks. It also got its own trufferie (with the annual truffle harvest being one of its largest calendar events) and luxury accommodation for 16 guests across two romantic suites and three self-contained cottages.
For receptions there are four locations catering to different sized celebrations - the wine bar, restaurant, function room and marquee - and with incredible dining options where much of the produce is grown on-site, Borrodell is a true destination wedding venue.
Location: Hawkesbury, NSW // Capacity: 600 (seated) 1,000 (standing) // Accommodation: Yes - sleeps 28 // Wedshed loves: That you don't have to jump hoops to have a celebration here that feels entirely you. In fact, it's encouraged. Also, 7,000 fairy lights...
If you look just beyond the suburbs of Sydney you’ll discover some incredible rural wedding venues - Hawkesbury Country Retreat being one of them. Here, there’s not a high-rise in sight. Instead, you’ll find impressive views of the Hawkesbury River and surrounding mountains, and plenty of picturesque spots for photo opportunities.
This 20-acre property also features a stunning orchard, an outdoor archway illuminated by 7,000 fairy lights and a large fireplace, creating an idyllic setting for an outdoor ceremony or cocktail hour. It’s impressive stuff, and just a small part of this all-inclusive NSW wedding venue’s offering.
There’s also an exotic bird aviary and petting zoo and on-site accommodation for 28 guests. Plus, it’s huge - this BYO wedding venue can cater anywhere from 60 to 1,000 guests (perfect for large weddings) with five reception spaces to choose from. It’s a lot to take in (in a good way) and is even more impressive IRL.
Location: Southwest, WA // Capacity: 150 // Accommodation: Yes - sleeps 36 // Wedshed loves: The farmhouse and surrounding landscape - this place is why they call Australia the lucky country.
Western Australia’s southwest region is known for its natural beauty, and Brookhampton Road Farm is no exception. Home to a newly renovated 1940’s farmhouse and a picturesque plum and pear orchard, this 72-acre working farm is perfect for couples seeking a relaxed wedding setting where Mother Nature is the main attraction.
With a clearing between the orchard and bush, there’s plenty of open space for any kind of pop-up structure (sperry tent, marquee etc.) or a celebration under the stars, and the surrounding waterways make for an idyllic ceremony location. Food trucks, musicians, glamping tents (30 guests can camp out in the orchard) and anything else required to create an unforgettable experience can also gain easy access to the property.
This is a venue that’s all about celebrating the beauty of the land, with a focus on simple elegance and genuine hospitality. Whether you’re planning an intimate elopement, a micro wedding or a larger celebration, this venue provides a stunning and serene backdrop that’s sure to impress.
Location: Yarra Valley, VIC // Capacity: 150 // Accommodation: No // Wedshed loves: The cherry blossoms in spring (so pretty!), the lush farmland and the flexibility to create whatever kind of celebration you want.
The story of CherryHill Orchards began in 1940 when their grandfather planted his first cherry trees in Victoria's fertile Yarra Valley. Now - 84 years on - CherryHill is growing more cherries than ever, is still 100% Australian owned and hosts incredible weddings and events year-round.
Even if cherries aren't your favourite fruit, the orchard and surrounding views here are guaranteed to light a fire in any human's heart. Beautiful in every season (especially in spring when the cherry blossoms are in bloom or summer when folks are invited to pick their own cherries), it's a stunning spot to wed.
Perfect for DIY weddings, couples have complete flexibility to tailor-make their day with BYO food and catering and a lush farmland setting suitable for a marquee, tepee or similar. It's pet-friendly, too!
Location: South Coast, NSW // Capacity: 120 // Accommodation: Yes - sleeps 6 // Wedshed loves: The location, the wildlife, the views, the modern reception space - but not necessarily in that order.
For couples dreaming of a coastal wedding with a touch of countryside charm, Bawley Vale Estate offers the best of both worlds. Located near the pristine beaches of the South Coast and nestled on 100 acres, this boutique winery and orchard is a true gem.
For ceremonies, the estate’s orchard is a magical spot surrounded by the beauty of nature, however, there’s also a beautiful all-weather outdoor ceremony area. After the “I dos,” guests can enjoy the estate’s award-winning wines and relax on the scenic lawns alongside friendly farm animals (pets are also welcome).
The reception space is a modern-industrial design with sky-high ceilings, dramatic floor-to-ceiling glass windows (it would be a crime to hide the views) and timber, brick and metal finishings. Large barn doors open out to the surrounding vineyards and bushland and an outdoor fire pit adds to the ambiance.
Each booking at this NSW south coast wedding venue includes two nights accommodation in the gorgeous two-bedroom studio and with so much to enjoy here, stretching the celebrations across an entire weekend makes complete sense.
Location: Sydney, NSW // Capacity: 150 (seated) 200 (standing) // Accommodation: Yes - sleeps 16 // Wedshed loves: Big skies, big views and enough space for the most creative ideas to take shape - here the options are limitless.
Just an hour from Sydney, this hidden oasis is a place that doesn't mind being different. Rather than chasing trends, it's been purposefully designed to be somewhere that couples can bring (almost) any creative ideas to life. The outdoor, all-weather pavilion takes full advantage of the surrounding views and is ideal for both ceremonies and receptions. There's also a marquee or for an especially eye-pleasing alternative, the olive grove is always an option. With 50-year-old olive trees and a wood-fired pizza oven it's an inviting space for post-ceremony cocktails and canapés or a next day recovery party.
The property offers exclusive-use hire for two nights and three days, with on-site accommodation for up to 16 guests. Whether you're planning a relaxed micro wedding or a big joy-filled celebration for up to 200 guests, The Rise makes it easy to create a memorable, personal event. With generous inclusions and the freedom to BYO drinks and catering, it's where seamless, heart-led celebrations happen.
Location: South West, WA // Capacity: 200 (seated) 300 (standing) // Accommodation: No // Wedshed loves: The honey-coloured sunsets and paddock to plate menu options.
Margaret River is a dream destination for many couples, and The Tiller Farm is one of the region’s most enchanting venues. Set on 50 acres, this working farm and orchard ticks every box.
Rows of fruit trees create a romantic and intimate atmosphere for ceremonies and the sunsets here make cocktail hour feel extra special. This WA wedding venue also boasts a stunning barn-style reception space, complete with polished concrete floors and floor-to-ceiling windows that showcase the surrounding countryside. It’s a venue that perfectly blends modern elegance with natural beauty while remaining practical - it has plenty of amenities, wet weather options, wheelchair access and more.
Perhaps The Tiller Farm’s biggest selling point however, is their focus on good food. The paddock to plate, low food mile and sustainable menus are a dream for foodies and create an experience that’s unique, ethical and memorable for all the right reasons.
Location: Orange, NSW // Capacity: 100 (seated) 250 (standing) // Accommodation: No // Wedshed loves: With a stage, pizza oven, rustic bar and floating jetty this BYO wedding venue was made for celebrating good times the old-fashioned way.
Steeped in history and charm, Canobolas Dance Hall is a unique venue nestled at the foot of Mt Canobolas in Orange, NSW where rich volcanic soils provide the perfect environment for growing apples and cherries - something the Hall family has been doing for over 40 years.
Built between both world wars, the lovingly restored hall offers a rustic yet refined space that’s perfect for couples who want a wedding with character and personality. The surrounding orchards provide a dreamy backdrop for outdoor ceremonies, while the hall itself is ideal for receptions - think polished timber floors, high ceilings, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
Canobolas Dance Hall is a venue where old-world charm meets modern convenience, making it a standout choice for couples looking for something truly special.
Location: Hawkesbury, NSW // Capacity: 250 // Accommodation: Yes - sleeps 12 // Wedshed loves: The smell of orange blossom (is there anything better?) and the opportunity to stay exclusively on an orchard for three nights.
Since we're on the subject of Australian orchards, it would be remiss of us not to mention Cornwallis House - a beautiful NSW wedding venue set on a working orange orchard. Nestled along the Hawkesbury River, it offers an intimate and picturesque setting for couples and their guests to celebrate over an entire weekend.
What also sets Cornwallis House apart is its unique wedding package - while essentially a DIY venue where couples can organise their own vendors, there are loads of helpful (and cost saving inclusions) such as furniture, portable toilets, cool rooms, kitchen, bar area and more. There's also a temperature controlled function room and expansive lawns that can easily accommodate a wedding marquee or teepee.
You’ll also have the entire property to yourselves, ensuring complete privacy for your celebration. The venue’s luxurious, Queenslander style house provides the perfect base for pre-wedding preparations and accommodation for eight guests and if you enquire via Wedshed you'll receive a bonus third night free. Doesn't sound too shabby.
Orchard weddings have a unique charm that’s hard to beat. There’s something about being surrounded by nature with the sweet scent of fruit in the air, that creates an atmosphere of romance and tranquility. Plus, orchards offer endless possibilities for stunning photos, from golden hour shots among the trees to candid moments under a canopy of blossoms.
Another perk? Orchard venues often have a strong connection to the land, with many producing their own wines, ciders, or other delights that can be incorporated into your wedding menu or styling (we’ll say it again - food as art is a huge 2025 wedding trend).
Whether you’re dreaming of a boho-chic celebration, a classic countryside affair, or something entirely unique, Australia’s orchard wedding venues offer a stunning and versatile backdrop for your special day.
