Not Just a Pretty Flower

Hello! I'm Bec, founder of Not Just a Pretty Flower and a Sustainable Floristry Network (SFN) Florist!

I create custom floral arrangements for weddings and events using exclusively Australian grown, natural coloured flowers and no floral foam (a single-use plastic). Everything I design can be composted or repurposed after your day so that nothing beautiful goes to landfill.

Alongside sustainable floristry, what I care about is understanding the flowers that reflect you and your story.

My philosophy is 'let the flowers do the talking'. I focus on feeling and intention and translating this through nature. I design in harmony with your surrounds and believe in timeless design and style over trends.

Weddings represent so much more than a day to me. It's the ultimate celebration of your unique love with your closest people…a rare moment to bring your community together and do it all in a way that feels entirely you.

I'll get to know you as a couple, the atmosphere and feeling you want to create. Then I design from the heart, sourcing flowers from our amazing Australian growers and styling pieces - everywhere from vintage and antique dealers to local artisans - to bring your vision to life. From ceremony installations to abundant tablescapes and bespoke bouquets. And at the end of the wedding, I'll wrap your flowers or deconstruct them into buckets of water so you and your guests can continue to enjoy them.

My practice includes exclusively using Australian-grown flowers only, no floral foam, compostable arrangements, and designing out waste at every stage.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I grew up on Awabakal land in Lake Macquarie, NSW and now live and create in Maroubra on beautiful Gadigal & Bidjigal land. My love of gardens, flowers, and nature was seeded early picking Double Delight roses and lavender at my grandparents' property, making potpourri and adventuring around Lake Macquarie.

I came to floristry through a career change, moving from financial crime consulting into social enterprise. Founding Not Just a Pretty Flower reignited that sense of wonder and deep gratitude for nature I had growing up and I haven't looked back.

When I'm not creating, you'll find me out in nature, running through the headland, searching for nudibranchs, sitting at my local café practicing French, or rescuing interesting finds from the roadside. I love sourcing unique pieces from local artisans, social enterprises, and second-hand places because character, stories and details matter.
