About This Venue
Steeped in history and character, the recently-restored Rutherglen Convent was built in 1927 and is surrounded by the delightful wine-making township of Rutherglen. Located 3 hours from Melbourne our unique, family-owned property allows couples looking for freedom and beauty to plan a wedding that tells their own love story. Our couples have exclusive access to the entire convent building and grounds and can host a ceremony and cocktail reception of up to 100 guests (50 sit-down).
Due to the unique nature of the property there are a number of ceremony and reception options including the thoughtfully-restored Chapel with intricate lead-light windows, the grand front steps and landscaped front gardens under the shade of the giant oak tree, the ground floor original classroom basking in local history and natural light, or the gallery and courtyard with fire-pit, rock seating and open green space.

Owner / Manager
Hi! I’m Gina and I am lucky enough to manage the Rutherglen Convent. My husband Ben and I co-own this beautiful building with Michael and Tayler, and we are two families who have been holidaying in Rutherglen for over 20 years. In 2019 when the opportunity came up to purchase the property and after countless hours dreaming about the possibilities of how grand this previously run-down building could be, we decided to take a leap of faith and put our years of carpentry experience and passion for old buildings to work. Over the next 15 months we would work countless hours transforming it back to what you see today. We all fell in love with the building and its township in the process, now happily residing here. It has been an honour to restore this beautiful building and breathe life back into the old brick walls and see it now becoming a place to honour love and adventure as our couples start their new life together!
