About This Venue
The Diggers’ Store is an iconic heritage building in Castlemaine, established in 1857. Once selling mining supplies to the local diggers, it has historical significance for the region.
In the old store today, people will find a beautiful multiple-use space, lovingly maintained and managed by a small family.
There are various spaces used for creative projects and events on the property, including, but not limited to:
- The Shop: The downstairs shop space has a stage for performance and ceremony; a bar; double doors leading out on to a grapevine laden courtyard; original wooden flooring, and an open fire place.
(Capacity: 70 people standing, 35 people sit-down dinner, 50 people seated theatre-style.)
- The Big Room: (Upstairs from the shop space) The Big Room is full of natural light, with huge windows, wooden floors, and an impressively high ceiling. It is used as an exhibition space, photography studio, and for workshops, meetings, long-table dinners, and other projects. It’s also a perfect space for wedding photos and/or a bridal party dressing area!
(Capacity: 40 people max.)
- Sound Recording Studio: Set in an old stone shed, this space can be used for various projects and is perfect or a band/party-room or for a long table dinner!
(Capacity: 55-60 people at tables, 80 standing.)
- Outdoor areas – the orchard, the old tin sheds, the courtyard, and the gardens.
Included in the hire is also the use of the converted self-contained 1850s stable bed and breakfast accommodation.
