About This Venue
Over 100 years old, Ballara is a step back in time with a grand hallway, large rooms and much of the original furniture remaining. Ballara can accommodate up to 6 adults in 3 bedrooms with shared bathroom.
For city folk looking for a country wedding, Ballara is only 2-3 hours from Adelaide on Southern Yorke Peninsula, making for some road trip fun as part of the experience.
The bride and her bridesmaids may choose to stay at Ballara 1 or 2 (or more!) nights before the wedding and take advantage of in-house options of Swedish massage, yoga & Pilates. Hair & make-up can also be arranged or they may choose to organise their own.
The ceremony takes place on the lawn in ‘Mrs.Baker’s Backyard’ with spectacular views over rural countryside to the ocean, only 5km away! It’s quite possible, sheep could even be part of the guest list!
A short stroll to the reception in Warooka’s wonderful old Memorial Hall complete with original crushed red velvet stage curtains. Again, catering can be arranged if desired.
A stop at the Warooka Hotel on the way to the hall for a quick drink is more than likely!
No driving necessary from the ceremony to reception and buses can be arranged to pick up guests from their accommodation. This could be located at Point Turton or Hardwicke Bay, where a variety of seaside accommodation is available. A few motel units are available at the hotel.

Owner / Manager
I have lived at Warooka all my life, apart from 5 years at boarding school! I even married the farmer next door and with a son home working am now a farmer’s daughter, wife & mother!
Ballara was built in about 1910 for my grandfather William Baker & his new wife, Millie, who named the house in memory of her home town of Ballarat. William & Millie had 5 children. My father, Bill, being the middle child & eldest boy, became man of the house at a very young age after the early death of his father. I am therefore 3rd generation carer for this beautiful old home, and I love to share it!
With an interest in the Arts, in particular photography, I have created Ballara Art & Lifestyle Retreat and offer it as a venue for the many talented people in our district to share their skills.
A range of all inclusive packages comprising various art lessons, photography, writing, yoga, massage, pilates & personal training are just some of the options. As an example a 2-night weekend stay could include a morning yoga/pilates session followed by an afternoon art lesson, with all meals included. Artists, writers & musicians from elsewhere can also spend time at Ballara as a retreat to work on their profession.
The idea of offering wedding packages came about after friends asked if they could be married at Ballara.
