A school camp by day and unique wedding venue by night, Weddings in the Wilde boasts a bush chapel, a marquee, a commercial kitchen, multiple function rooms, accommodation for over 100 guests, a volleyball court, a pool, a bar and a teepee. Pretty much everything you need to create the ultimate adult slumber party.
Tell us a bit about your venue.
We run school camps during the week but on the weekends the hiking boots go in the cupboard and the heels come out! Hana and Abi started Weddings in the Wilde in 2015 and have enjoyed watching it grow and grow.
What inspired you to get involved with weddings?
Our venue looked lonely on the weekends…
Tell us about the facilities your venue offers?
A bush chapel, a beautiful marquee on the green, a full service kitchen for caterers, several dining/function rooms, accommodation for more than 100 guests, a games room, beach volleyball court, putt putt golf, hikes, trails, a small pool, campfires and fire pits, a bush bar, a teepee for the afterparty, a fully-equipped self-catering kitchen and all of the greenery and beauty typical of the southern highlands.
What do you think is the selling point for most couples?
The weekend wedding concept – people love the idea that their wedding doesn’t have to be a five hour package with drinks. They can rock up on Friday night and get organised and set up, then have pizza and drinks around the campfire, followed by a relaxed morning of getting ready for their wedding. Then they get married, have a party and roll into bed!
After that, they wake up the next morning to breakfast and spend some time with the guests they didn’t make it around to talk to the night before and play some lawn games with drinks in the arvo. Some couples choose to extend their stay for a few days to spend some time with their guests in a camp-style environment, particularly for those with guests that have come a really long way!
Do you offer onsite accommodation? Alternatively, are there places to stay nearby?
Yes we sure do, however it’s mostly dorm style, so there are definitely some guests that choose to hire houses or accommodation in nearby Burrawang, Fitzroy Falls or Robertson.
What’s your favourite thing you’ve seen a couple do at your venue?
One couple were surprised by some cast members of ‘Orange is the New Black’ crashing their wedding for a Netflix special!
And what do you think would be epic at your property? Any ideas you’d love to see a couple carry out?
I’d love to see a field of lights at our venue as we have a beautiful green space in front of our marquee.
Describe the kind of couples your venue attracts?
Laid back, creative couples with great ideas and family and friends who love to hang around.
Any new additions on the horizon?
Possibly a field of lights, haha.
