What makes your venue unique?
The variety of locations for ceremonies, photos and receptions all in one venue is what make the Australian Botanic Garden at Mount Annan unique. Brides and grooms can select from lakeside backdrops, rainforest vistas or even gorgeous open grasslands to hold their ceremony or have their photos taken.
For receptions, the Garden offers four primary reception locations with completely different vibes including PlantBank for its award winning architectural features, Bowden Centre which is perfect for the bride on a budget, Marquee Lawn, made for the bride and groom with big guest lists or Connections Garden for an ambient, outdoor cocktail reception.
Sum up the vibe of your venue in 10 words.
Endless options for ceremonies and receptions in south-west Sydney’s most stunning venue.
What’s the history of the property?
Originally farmland and then a riding school, the Garden was purchased by the NSW state government in the 1980’s as part of the then government’s plan to expand upon the existing Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney with a native botanical garden and arboretum in the south-west region of Sydney that would showcase Australian native plants. After many years of planning and work, the Garden was opened on Sunday 2 October 1988 by the then Duke and Duchess of York.
Since then, the Garden has continued to grow in popularity and now receives over 400,000 visitors a year from across the country and the globe.
What inspired you to get involved with weddings?
Being such a naturally stunning location, the Garden just lends itself to weddings. There’s such a wonderful diversity of backdrops on offer, so becoming a wedding venue was really an obvious fit for the Garden.
What do you think is the selling point for most couples?
Apart from the stunning and varied scenery, it would have to be the price point that entices couples. Whether you want an all out silk-lined marquee wedding or a more simple and budget conscious affair, the Garden has ceremony and reception options for both.
How much flexibility do couples have to create their own unique day at your place?
Flexibility is our middle name! Our venues lend themselves to couples who want to do something different and unique, just like our venues!
Do you offer onsite accommodation? Alternatively, are there places to stay nearby?
No, but we have several accommodation options close by, including Rydges at Campbelltown.
What’s your favourite thing you’ve seen a couple do at your venue?
An Indian couple hired the Marquee Lawn, had a huge silk-lined marquee set up and then did the traditional drumming ceremony across the lawns to the marquee. It was so colourful and musical and all of the Garden visitors that day enjoyed the entertainment!
How far in advance do couples generally have to book?
Many of our couples book a year in advance, but we also have many couples who don’t want to wait that long and with so many venue options we can often accommodate couples wanting to marry within a few months.
Do you work alongside many local vendors?
Absolutely and all the time. Being an environmentally sensitive site, it’s important to work with vendors who know and understand this. That’s why we like to refer our couples to other local vendors who we know we can trust, and so can the couple getting married.
Any new additions on the horizon?
We’ve recently launched Wedding Island, a new, secluded waterside setting for ceremonies.
