Q Station Manly is undeniably one of Sydney’s most spectacular and unique waterfont wedding venues. Located inside Sydney Harbour National Park, this heritage site (once a working quarantine station) now offers guests boutique accommodation, heaps of scope to create a personal day and magical views of the harbour.
You may recognise it from our 2017 Spring Fling. We chatted to the Q Station team about what couples can expect when they tie the knot here…
What inspired you guys to get involved with weddings?
We had our first recorded wedding onsite in 1948 and have never looked back. The natural beauty of the site lends itself perfectly to weddings and we have now had the pleasure of looking after many couples who entrust us to deliver one of the most important events of their lives. The thrill of executing a seamless wedding for our clients and guests really drives the whole team, who are very passionate about the property.
Can you give a rundown on what Q Station is all about?
Located within a 30 hectare site on the North Head of Manly is one of Sydney’s most unique destinations, Q Station. An enduring part of Sydney’s history that once served as the Quarantine Station for migrants arriving in Australia, the property can now be experienced 365 days a year. It’s location in Sydney Harbour National Park makes it a truly spectacular location for weddings and events.
Q Station is a fully integrated destination offering hotel accommodation, indoor and outdoor event space and unique venues for wedding ceremonies, receptions and events. Guests who stay overnight also have the opportunity to explore the site by conducting a history tour or getting active by the beach with kayaking and SUP hire available. The onsite restaurants and bar offer a wide range of dining options, from a light snack to a gourmet dining experience.
What do you think is the selling point for most couples?
The stunning location and destination style property, right in the heart of Sydney. There really isn’t anywhere like it. Only a five minute drive from the centre of Manly yet when you are onsite, you feel a million miles away.
How about the facilities your venue offers?
As well as having multiple options for unique ceremonies and reception venues, we are also a fully functioning hotel with 100 accommodation rooms, two restaurants, a café and bar. Guests can advantage of the private beach and explore the site on foot or take part in one of the history or ghost tours. The property is family friendly and offers nine three bedroom cottages complete with kitchenette, lounge room, outdoor deck and gardens.
What’s your favourite thing you’ve seen a couple do at your venue?
Our first wedding in the Glasshouse was a stand out. After sitting idly for many years, we restored the Glasshouse and made it available for winter weddings and events. The first couple to book this unique location really showed us what this space can do. Bringing in plants, trees and pops of colour, they captured the beauty of the structure and the surrounding area. The Glasshouse is available for weddings and events throughout the year, although we do recommended avoiding the summer months!
And what do you think would be epic at your property? Any ideas you’d love to see a couple carry out?
This site is just so unique and has so many possibilities that the list of epic wedding ideas is endless! Here are a few things that we think would be amazing to host on site:
· Pontoon wedding in the Quarantine Bay
· Arriving to your ceremony on the wharf by sea plane
· Parachuting into your ceremony on the headland
· Arriving to your wedding via kayak – just make sure your outfit doesn’t get too wet
· Arrive by helicopter
Of course, all of the above would require approval from relevant stakeholders but we think they would be pretty amazing!
Describe the kind of couples the Q Station attracts?
Couples who are looking for something truly Australian with stunning vistas and those who are looking for a destination style wedding, close to home. The property is so vast that couples are still creating one-of-a-kind experiences even now. It really is one of Sydney’s most unique wedding and event venues.
