Things to make you go ‘I do’.

VENUE FEATURE: Mount Sturgeon by Royal Mail Hotel

Thirty thousand bottles of wine. That’s how many they’re hoarding here (and one of the reasons Mount Sturgeon by Royal Mail Hotel is one of our fave VIC wedding venues). That, and the beautifully restored woolshed, on-site cottage accommodation, beautiful views, good food… the list goes on.

Read on and find out what goes into running a first-class wedding venue and how it can be yours (for that big day at least).

Tell us a bit about your venue.

Set on a working farm under the southern tip of the Grampians mountain range is our beautifully restored rustic woolshed, historic bluestone homestead and a series of on-site cottage accommodation.

The surrounds feature magnificent red gums, rolling lawns and the most stunning views. All service and catering is provided by the Royal Mail Hotel – one of regional Australia’s best known food and wine destinations.

What inspired you to get involved with weddings?

We’re all about connecting people with food, wine and each other – weddings are this in a nutshell!

What sort of facilities does your venue offers?

‘The Woolshed’ can take up to 120 seated guests in a setting that lends itself to be styled to suit boho, rustic or country-themed weddings.

‘The Homestead’ is an ideal location for a ceremony on the lawns, verandah or inside in one of the formal rooms.

The surrounds have many locations for marquees and photography locations.

Accommodation at the property and at the nearby hotel can sleep up to 100 guests.

What do you think is the biggest selling point for most couples?

The reputation of the Royal Mail Hotel, combined with the country style of the Mt Sturgeon property.

Do you offer onsite accommodation? Alternatively are there places to stay nearby?

There are Mt Sturgeon Cottages on-site, there’s the Royal Mail Hotel and various accommodation in the village of Dunkeld.

What’s your favourite thing you’ve seen a couple do at your venue?

Turn the blank canvas of The Woolshed into a beautifully styled space full of foliage, flowers, candles and decorative elements.

And what do you think would be epic at your property? Any ideas you’d love to see a couple carry out?

Using all the spaces available to create a real ‘festival’ weekend. Start with gathering everyone in the front bar for a jovial catch up and introductions. Early morning walks, golf or chilling out before a ceremony at The Homestead lawns, photography against the mountain backdrop or under huge red gum trees.

Followed by a reception in The Woolshed, and brunch the next day under the trees in The Homestead back yard.

Describe the kind of couples your venue generally attracts.

Lovers of food and wine, appreciators of nature and beautiful landscapes.

Any new additions on the horizon?

Our menus always change as they are guided by the seasonal produce harvested from our own garden. Wines offered can be very special and great value due to our vast collection (over 30,000 bottles), so the wine offering changes all the time also.
