Sydney makeup artist Suzannah Jayne is living the dream – painting pretty faces on a daily basis and making brides feel their absolute best. Here we chat to this easy-going artist about skin care, wedding trials and the next big wedding trends.
Hey Suzannah, can you tell us a bit about what you do?
I work on editorial as well as model development for new faces here in Sydney. It’s a great gig and means I am always able tell lots of different stories through makeup with the shoots I get to do. My favourite look of course is bridal, which has led me to working with lots of bridal clients. For me, this is my ‘haven’ you could say and a place where I enjoy most of my time, creating that look that brides have always wanted. It really is a honour to be there at a bride’s wedding day.
What would you say is the main advantage for couples who work with you?
Usually after we do a trial and we know what look to go for, we suggest a great ‘beauty plan’ in terms of food and skincare to have before the big day so you have that ‘wedding glow’ on the day. That is very important to do, so that we can get your skin in a healthy routine before your wedding. Plus, on the day we can stay around if need be in case any touch ups need to be done, or for makeup changes. It’s up to you how you would like to tailor the day with us.
Do you think there are any preconceptions about the wedding industry?
I do actually, I think there is a stigma about it being ‘just one day’. For me though, a wedding day is two families coming together and creating one. This leads to memories and years of love and laughter. Therefore, I feel if you want to go for it then go for it. Love is the best thing you can celebrate, might as well make it a great time!
What are some of the main questions couples ask you? And what are the answers?
Usually lots of beauty questions about makeup and hair looks complimenting each other. No question is a silly question. When I got married I asked a heap of questions! I didn’t really know how to even plan a wedding. I think the first question I asked was “So how do you get married?”.
How would you describe your business?
Easygoing yet organised.
What’s your next predicted wedding trend?
I see over-the-top magenta, hot pinks and burgundies in flowers with a relaxed theme around it. Think country with that bit of colourful elegance. I see this becoming a big trend.
