Often the secret to pulling off a kick-ass wedding is to hire an expert. Katie of Wild Goat Events is, among other things, an incredibly organised human who has turned her knack for planning events into a full-time career.
Based in Byron Bay, Katie and her team create bespoke, intimate weddings, elopements, proposals and just downright special moments. Plus, she’s lucky to have exclusive access to one of the Bay’s most iconic locations – Cape Byron Lighthouse.
Here, we talk to her about how she’s making her mark on one of NSW’s most popular wedding regions.
Tell us a bit about your business.
We create weddings and events in the Byron Bay region for couples craving luxury and romance.
How did you get into your line of work?
I love good times, and I love Byron Bay! Wild Goat Events allows me to indulge my passions while staying in my home town – a dream come true.
What do love most about your job?
Meeting and collaborating with super-talented creatives. Byron is full of artistic souls, and we are lucky enough to work alongside a bunch of truly amazing people for each event.
How would others describe you?
A little bit wild, a little bit luxe, and a whole lot of fun.
What services do you offer and how much flexibility do couples have to create their own unique day?
We offer full-wedding event planning – guiding couples through the process of hosting their wedding at our special venue. Couples have a say throughout every stage of the planning process – it is, after all, all about you. We take your vision, combine it with our own expertise (gained from creating gorgeous weddings in Morocco, FYI!) to create magical occasions at one of the world’s most stunning locations, designed to meet your every dream.
Describe the kind of couples you attract.
Couples who want an incredible, vibrant wedding with touches of luxury, in an intimate and relaxed setting.
What’s your favourite predicted wedding trend?
Caped wedding dresses – they’re set to be the go-to for brides wanting some dramatic style on their wedding day. Just add a headpiece and let your dress steal the show! (Marchesa has some gorgeous designs in their Spring 2017 collection.)
What are two questions couples generally want to ask you?
Q1. What happens if it rains? A1. It rains and we put Plan B, C, D or E into effect! It’s always important to consider this when booking an outdoor venue. Make sure you have a wet-weather plan in place, which may include a back-up venue (if it’s raining cats and dogs).
Q2. What does a wedding planner actually do? A2. Among other things we source, co-ordinate, network, negotiate, counsel, direct, plan, budget, monitor, style, over-see, crisis-manage, adapt, problem-solve and delegate. We are passionate local experts, here to ensure your day goes as smoothly and professionally as you always dreamed it would.

What’s your favourite thing you’ve seen a couple do at a wedding?
Reciting hand-written vows to one another – it gets me every time!
