It’s not uncommon to hear brides venting about how much work is involved in planning a wedding. Because the truth is, there’s more than most people expected. Which is why My Little Peony is such a god-send.

What started out as floral business coupled with a humble drinks service is now a one-stop-shop for all your wedding needs (think prop hire, dessert, grazing tables and even photo booths).

We chatted to owner Tegan about it all. Read on to find out why this talented team are worth their weight in gold…

How did you get into your line of work?

Almost by accident – I worked in consumer marketing for 10 + years and decided to take a short course in floristry. That led to a passion for flowers and the first part of our business, floral styling!

As for our vintage caravan bar, I came across two awesome brothers in QLD building custom-made timber caravans in a 1950’s style and just knew I needed to own one! I got researching and thinking and realised there was an opportunity to provide a unique drinks service at weddings for that time between the ceremony and reception – you know, when the bride and groom head off for photos and the guests are wondering what to do!? Although we offer so much more nowadays, this really was where it all began.

What sets your business apart?

We don’t just offer one standalone service, we’re about combining a few key elements of a wedding or event to limit the number of suppliers our couples have to work with, saving them who knows how much time! Think florals, caravan bar, prop hire, dessert and grazing tables, even photo booths – we like to think we’ve got most of the fun stuff covered!

What do love most about your job?

Every single weekend we get to meet new and amazing couples, travel to some of the best locations around NSW and watch as our couples celebrate love in their own special way with their closest family and friends – as cliche as it sounds, it makes us all warm and fuzzy.  We literally spend our ‘work’ days helping people celebrate the happiest day of their life – what’s not to love!

What’s your favourite thing you’ve seen a couple do at a wedding?

We had one wedding where the bride came out (all dressed and ready) as the guests arrived. There wasn’t the normal ‘big reveal’ walking down an aisle, the couple greeted everyone, enjoyed some live music and drinks and then when the moment felt right they called everyone to their ceremony space and got married (celebrant on standby!). It was so relaxed and personal, we just loved it – despite some of the guests thinking they had mistakenly seen the bride and didn’t know where to look or what to do – certainly an entrance with a difference!

How would others describe you?

Creative, determined, workaholic, passionate about the details – every single one of them!

What services do you offer and how much flexibility do couples have to create their own unique day?

Our couples have total flexibility to design their big day with us – although we have some suggested packages, everything can be customised to what they need on the day – right down to the props which our on-staff carpenter can design and build.

We offer a range of services including our vintage caravan bar and custom cocktail menus, floral styling, prop hire and bespoke prop design, signage, dessert tables, grazing tables, photo booths and event styling

Describe the kind of couples you attract.

Our couples are generally relaxed, laid back and a load of fun. They’re looking to have a great day with their family and friends – they’re the kind of kids who find a giant field, hire a teepee marquee, bring in food trucks (and vintage caravan bars!) and host a three day wedding festive

What’s your next predicted wedding trend?

For florals it has to be oversized cascading/trail bouquets – think wild and romantic, unruly and a real statement.

In general, we predict more and more couples will be looking at weekend long wedding events – think Friday arrive and chill, Saturday get married and party the night away, Sunday recovery brunch. With guests coming in from all over the country and often overseas, couples want to maximise their time with everyone, so we predict we’ll see more on-site properties with accommodation and where the whole she-bang can happen.

What’s the process for couples keen to enquire and/or book with you?

Jump online and check out our website, short-list the services you think you might like for the big day and then send over an email with the details you know so far: date, location, number of guests, your thoughts on styling (or any inspo images you have) and those services you are hoping to have. From there, our team will custom quote your event and if you are happy to go ahead it’s just a 30% deposit to secure your date.

Advice to newly engaged couples?

Do your research but lock in your favourite vendors early. Bookings seem to be getting further and further in advance (we’ve got couples asking about 2019 already!) so to avoid any disappointment, even if you don’t know 100% what you’re after, ask if you can pay a holding deposit to secure your preferred date

Is your caravan a reno and can we come inside!?

First question: No, we had ‘Peony’ (Pea-oh-knee) custom built by the talented brothers at Woody Caravans, we planned out every inch of her design with the guys to ensure she had everything needed for an epic bar at any party or celebration. From her inbuilt fridges, striking copper tap on the working sink and her on-trend subway tile splash back, we wanted to make sure she was sleek enough to not only fit with all wedding styles but that she was a real show stopper and something guests would talk about for months after partying with her!

Second question: absolutely! We custom designed a sitting lounge complete with a faux fur throw and the comfiest of cushions so you can come inside, take a load off and grab some photos – it’s a real fav spot with our couples and their professional photographers.
