Things to make you go ‘I do’.

REAL WEDDING: Steph + Cain – Forget Me Not Weddings

teepee wedding

Once upon a time, Cain taught Steph how to tie her shoelaces. Years later, they got engaged, tied the knot at a beautiful Byron Bay wedding venue and lived happily ever after.

True story. Check it out here.

Tell us about how you met and the proposal?

We met in pre-school where Cain taught me how to tie my shoelaces. We grew up alongside one another and were either dating or best friends. We rekindled our love at 23 and were engaged two years later. Cain proposed on the top of the Empire State Building in New York City.

What DIY projects did you accomplish for the wedding?

We did not have a wedding planner for our wedding, we created the day ourselves. We had a few DIY projects along the way from signage to name place cards and the wishing well box.

What was your theme/inspiration/vibe for your wedding?

The wedding portrayed our personal style which was a mix of rustic and bohemian.

What traditions did you involve during your big day?

We threw out most traditions. We had speeches within the ceremony and brides men and grooms maids.

What advice would you give to other couples leading up to their big day?

Take a moment on your wedding day to sit back together and watch the party from a distance and toast all you have achieved and all you have to look forward to in your future as husband and wife.

What does marriage mean to you?

Living life with your best friend.

What was your favourite moment on your wedding day?

The ceremony. Seeing everyone we loved in one location huddled together was extremely emotional. We wrote our own vows and had our ceremony tailored specifically to us by our good friend who became a celebrant to marry us.

How did you find your venue and was the process difficult for you?

We found our venue ‘Forget Me Not Weddings’ through a wedding website. The process of securing the venue and organising all the finer details with Jo the venue owner was seamless. She was amazing to work with and extremely accommodating.

Ceremony song?

Love Shack – B -52’s.

First dance song?

Bloom – Paper Kites.
