REAL WEDDING: Sara + TJ – BYRA
Despite rain rolling in last minute and having to source a clear marquee 2 days before, Sara + TJ couldn’t be happier with how their day played out.

Featuring exposed high vaulted ceiling beams inside the yacht club and a beautiful deck overlooking Pittwater Bay, it’s not hard to see why Sara and TJ chose BYRA as the backdrop for both their ceremony and reception. Plus, it gave them the ability to DIY a few things, including bringing in a clear marquee, only 2 days before the wedding.

Check out their beautiful day below, captured by Lucie Weddings.

In a nutshell, how would you describe your wedding day?

The absolute best day of our lives so far! So much love and happiness in one place.

What did you expect was going to be your favourite part in the lead-up? What did it end up being?

We both always talked about the moment walking down the aisle and seeing each other for the first time, this was pretty special but the whole day was so amazing and so emotional, we couldn’t pick it!

Did you write your own vows? If so, what made you decide to do that?

We wrote our own vows but read them to each when we woke up the on the morning of the wedding. We are both super emotional so didn’t think we would make it through reading them at the ceremony! TJ also had his vows fiber-glassed into a surfboard for me as a wedding gift.

What was it about BYRA that made you choose it as your wedding venue?

The spot is just perfect, right on the water! Having the freedom to BYO and decorate how we wanted was a big plus! Inside the hall is so beautiful with the open beam ceilings and festoon lights, you really don’t need to do much more in there. We also loved the idea of keeping it simple for us and our guests, having the ceremony and reception at the same spot.

What’s your best piece of wedding-related advice?

Be kind to each other in the lead-up and don’t sweat the small stuff, it’s not worth the stress or the argument. Also, get a videographer, it’s so worth it!

If you had your time again, is there anything you’d do differently?

Honestly, not much. Our hearts were so full and we were so caught up in the day that we didn’t even mind the little things that didn’t quite go to plan!

Finish these sentences… My partner is…

Sara: “A stud.”

TJ: “The best thing that has ever happened to me.”

The best thing we did at our wedding was…

Invite more people than we originally planned and partied like the rest of the guests were!

We splurged on…

We booked a clear marquee 2 days before the wedding and it was the best decision ever. I kept saying “don’t worry, it won’t rain on our wedding day” but when the weather forecast wasn’t changing from thunderstorms we booked a marquee last minute and it actually made the space look even more beautiful!

We saved on…

We got lots of favours from our family and friends like our cake, grazing table, DJ, dress alterations and our celebrant was a family friend. We were very lucky to have so many people offer to help!
