Things to make you go ‘I do’.

REAL WEDDING: Regina + Nigel – Feast at Leaves & Fishes

While on the hunt for a wedding photographer (who ended up being one of our faves Ben Howland), Regina stumbled upon Feast at Leaves & Fishes – a relaxed, intimate venue in the Hunter Valley which turned out to be the perfect pick. “…Perfect venue, perfect service, perfect everything!” says Regina who gave us the down-low on how her and Nigel brought their dream day to life.

Tell us about how you met and the proposal?

We were both from the same small town, and although we had some mutual friends we had never actually met. We had moved away to Sydney and Newcastle respectively and both happened to be back in our hometown one weekend – my brother convinced me to go out that weekend despite my objections, and the rest is history!

After six years, a town move for me and buying a house, Nige took me out for a “birthday lunch” in the Hunter Valley. On the hill at the Audrey Wilkinson vineyard, Nige proposed. When we arrived back home he had organised all my friends and family to be there for a surprise birthday / engagement party.

What DIY projects did you accomplish for the wedding?

I attempted to make some of our own stationery – promptly gave up and turned to Etsy!

What sort of vibe were you aiming for?

We were going for a relaxed, slightly bohemian / vintage theme for our wedding. We really just wanted to complement the venue.

What advice would you give to other couples leading up to their big day?

Make sure you get your printing done in advance – I spent the last week running around finding somewhere to print our floor plan and place cards before the wedding!

Also for the actual day – make sure you look around, take it all in and be in the moment as much as possible. It really does fly by too quickly.

What does marriage mean to you?

We had already been together for a number of years and knew we would spend our lives together, but the wedding and getting married was our way of celebrating our relationship, and really committing to each other that we will always fight for us no matter what comes our way. We are best friends who have grown together for the last now-nine years.

What was your favourite moment on your wedding day?

The first look was really emotional – Nige and I saw each other before the ceremony, which I’m glad we did so I wasn’t crying too much during the vows! It was really special to have that moment with only our very closest family and friends with us.

Any funny stories that surrounded your wedding?

Our celebrant Ed started talking about how he had received a telegram from someone who was unhappy that they didn’t receive an invitation – Nige and I looked at each other in horror, trying to work out who on earth we forgot to invite. The telegram ended up being from our dog!

Ceremony song?

‘For You’ by Angus & Julia Stone.

First dance song?

‘Sweet Disposition’ by Temper Trap (sung by Edie Love).
