REAL WEDDING: Megan + Tristan – Quirindi Stables

Marrying someone whose family makes wine is always a good idea – and that’s exactly what Megan did. The only catch? Finding a BYO wedding venue.

“We visited plenty of wedding venues in the Ballarat and Daylesford region and found that a lot of them had lots of rules…”, says Megan who eventually stumbled upon Quirindi Stables, a family owned farm set on more than 100 acres. It’s a stunner of a property and *drum roll*couples can bring in their own tipple of choice. Done deal.

Megan, tell us about how you met and the proposal?

We met through mutual friends in Ballarat. Tristan proposed while we were away for the weekend at my family beach house at Wye River on the Great Ocean Road.

Did you tackle any DIY for the day?

This wedding involved lots of help from family and friends. In particular Tristan’s dad Greg made our arbour from something that was lying around on the farm and Tristan’s sister Andrea made it look amazing with some flowers. We also used an old ladder for Andrea to hang flowers from the roof of the marquee. Tristan and Greg made a makeshift dance floor the day before the wedding that worked perfectly. My Mum made natural soap as our bonbonniere.

Did you have a theme or vibe you were aiming for?

We didn’t really have a particular theme, other than that we had chosen to get married at a local farm and wanted everything to be pretty relaxed – that guided most of our decisions regarding decorations and styling.

What was your favourite moment on your wedding day?

Having our Grandpas as the ring bearers was really special to us. Having one of our groomsmen, Adam, sing our first dance song with the band was pretty amazing too.
