Bec and Joey met by chance on a holiday in Bali. Fast forward ten years and they tied the knot at Pacific Palms – a waterfront clubhouse that’s become a popular NSW beach wedding venue.
Their ceremony took place on the sand and afterwards guests were invited back to the clubhouse to enjoy some live music, home-brewed beer, personalised wedding favours and donuts. The awesome moment-capturer Chris from Underatreehouse was thankfully on hand to snap the whole shebang. Good luck trying to find a more chillaxed, sunny wedding better than this one.
Tell us about how you met and the proposal?
Joey and I met in Bali in September 2008. I was on holiday from the UK and he was from Manly, Australia. We fell head over heels and I moved to Australia in November that year. We haven’t looked back.
What DIY projects did you take on for the wedding?
I made all my own wedding favours; little bottles filled with tequila and hand printed labels, hand printed seed packets filled with my favourite wild flowers and white paper fans for the beach. We saved a lot of money and I loved making them myself as it meant more to my guests
One of the groomsman made all of our beer, we bottled it and I made the labels naming them Pacific Palms Ale.
What sort of vibe or look were you aiming to create for your wedding?
Tropical beach, lots of palms and plants.
What advice would you give to other couples leading up to their big day?
Make your wedding your own – everyone enjoys giving advice but it’s your day to enjoy and celebrate so make sure it’s about you and your love. Have fun!
What does marriage mean to you?
A celebration of love. We got married because we wanted to have a huge PARTY with our loved ones in celebration of one another.
What was your favourite moment on your wedding day?
Walking down toward the beach and seeing my husband-to-be waiting for me with all of my friends and family, it took my breath away.
How did you find your venue and was the process difficult for you?
I actually first saw it on WedShed! We knew what we wanted from a venue so it was fairly easy for us, the whole process was straight forward and the venue manager was a dream to work with and so helpful.
‘Heartbeats’ by Jose Gonzalez and ‘Thinking of you’ remixed by Lord Echo.
First dance song?
Betty Davis Eyes by Gwyneth Paltrow (cheesy I know).
