Meet Urban Winery Sydney, run by Alex who started making wine in the mid-’90s and has worked on vintages in the Hunter Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Languedoc. Alex and his team have now created their own label A. Retief, with a beautiful space in Sydney to compliment.

Dine amongst the wine barrels of this beautiful space, with exclusive-hire available catering for up to 250 people with indoor and outdoor setting. With a commercial kitchen at their venue, you can work with their trusted catering partners or bring your own chef to cater for a personalised menu.

Can you tell us a bit about Urban Winery Sydney?

Urban Winery Sydney is Australia’s first true urban winery and the home of A.Retief wines.

Bringing the country to the city, Urban Winery Sydney is the only place in the city where you can entertain and dine with your guests amongst barrels producing our latest vintage.

The A.Retief wine label is made from grapes sourced from cool climate southern NSW regions, including Tumbarumba, The Hilltops and the family’s biodynamic vineyard in Gundagai. The grapes are all trucked in entirely handcrafted by Alex on-site.

Being a working winery, epicurious visitors can discover and enjoy wine through our blending masterclasses, tours, tutored tastings, long lunches and exclusive private events.

With a community feel and inclusive atmosphere, we want our visitors to feel part of the process and a sense of ownership of the brand.

What inspired you to get involved with weddings?

We saw an opportunity with our boutique winery where we could transform the area into a charming ceremony and reception space. Our rustic-chic space features high ceilings, wine barrels and polished concrete floors, it’s an ideal canvas for the creatively inclined.

Urban Winery Sydney wants to make every moment of your wedding magical. We invite newlyweds to discover our winery which is located on the edge of the city at the Entertainment Quarter, only 10 minutes from the CBD. Guests will feel they can truly relax and let their hair down as they step into our winery. You will make you feel as though you have been transported to the vineyards of regional NSW.

Do you offer onsite accommodation? Alternatively, are there places to stay nearby?

No accommodation on site but we do have places nearby, we’re located 10 mins from Sydney CBD.

What’s your favourite thing you’ve seen a couple do at your venue?

We had our first proposal at the winery- it was very sweet.

You want to remember your wedding day as one of the best days of your life! Take things one step at a time so you don’t become overwhelmed, you want to enjoy the experience.
